Shrine speaker, veteran’s event: Five things to know in Burrillville this week

Scouts with Pack 102 organized food collections Saturday from a drive held over the weekend to benefit local pantries. Those who missed the drive but would still like to donate non-perishables to the Scouting for Food program can drop off donations at The Pool Pirate or Serio's Pizzerama. So far, Burrillville scouts have collected 5.5 pallets of food, with donations to stay in town.

Veteran’s Day

Burrillville Town Hall will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 11 in celebration of Veteran’s Day, and trash and recycling pickup will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

The Burrillville Allied Veteran’s Council will host a ceremony in recognition of the day starting at 11 a.m. at the Pascoag Bridgeway. The event is open to all veterans, families and the general public. For more information call (401) 568-0858.

Shrine hosts author Carroll

Author Mary Lea Carroll will visit the Shrine of the Little Flower on Saturday, Nov. 13, beginning at 10 a.m. Carroll will share a reading from her new book ‘Somehow Saints: More Travels in Search of the Saintly.” Afterwards, copies of “Somehow Saints” and her first book, “Saint Everywhere: Travels in Search of the Lady Saints,” will be available for purchase and to have signed.

The reading and book-signing are free and open to the public. The list price for books is $20. Following the book-signing will be a private luncheon with the author. Reservations for the luncheon can be made by calling the parish office at (401) 568-8280. Suggested donation for lunch is $20. The Shrine is located at 35 Dion Drive in Nasonville.

Charter Review ideas

The town of Burrillville advises that those who would like to address the town’s Charter Review Commission must submit a form for each charter items to be reviewed. Forms can be downloaded from the commission’s webpage or picked up at the Town Clerk’s office, and must be received by Tuesday, Nov. 30.

At the Assembly

Auditions for Inspiration Performing Art’s Matilda the Musical Jr. will be held at the Assembly Theatre at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8 for young actors ages 8-18. Full information is available here.

On Saturday, Nov. 13 and Sunday, Nov. 14, the East Avenue theater will host All Together Now, a global event celebrating musical theater in collaboration with Inspiration Performing Arts, The Dance Step and Blue Edge Designs. The performance will feature a selection of songs from shows including Rent, Les Misérables, Into the Woods, Matilda, Hairspray, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler on the Roof, Once on This Island, Little Shop of Horrors, Mamma Mia! and many more.

The Burrillville Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Monday, Nov. 8 at 200 Clear River Drive starting at 6:30 p.m. The agenda can be found here.

The Burrillville School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9 starting at 6 p.m. in the Burrillville High School cafeteria. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Sewer Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. at 141 Clear River Drive. The agenda can be found here.

The Harrisville Fire District will hold a monthly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9 starting at 7 p.m. at 115 Central St. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Town Council will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 10 starting at 7 p.m. at the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.

There will be no Zoning Board of Review hearing for the month of November.
