BURRILLVILLE – A 31-year-old Burrillville man with previous convictions for sexual assault and child pornography was arrested in Burrillville this month after police reportedly obtained a warrant to search his phone.

Ian Goyette, who was registered as a level 3 sex offender living at 330 Court House Lane in Pascoag, is facing a new charge of felony possession of child pornography following his arrest on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Goyette, who was convicted of third degree sexual assault in 2014, and for a sex offender registration violation and possession of child pornography in 2017, had reportedly been released with a special condition sentence. The probation prohibited Goyette from residing, or having unsupervised contact, with any children under the age of 17, and of having any device capable of accessing the internet.

According to his arrest report, Goyette told police he’d been dating a woman from Woonsocket with a 3-year-old daughter, who he met on the dating app Plenty of Fish. He said his boss set up and monitored the dating profile for him.

“Throughout the interview it was obvious that Goyette was less than truthful and was misleading about his relationship, use of the internet and owning digital devices,” the report notes.

The suspect later admitted to police that he had a phone in his trailer, which police seized and searched. The device reportedly contained images of female children, who were determined to be less than ten years old.

Goyette was arraigned before Judicial Officer Melissa Dubois and his bond was set at $15,000 personnel recognizance. He has a pre-arraignment conference scheduled for Monday, Feb. 21 of 2022.
