Library birthday, Halloween Bazaar: Things to know in Burrillville this week

Water flushing

The Pascoag Utility District Water Department will conduct water flushing on Monday, Oct. 18 and Tuesday, Oct. 19 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The flushing process may cause discoloration to the water for a short time and those affected are advised to run their water until it runs clear. The district thanked residents for their patience during the annual maintenance task.

Library birthday

Pascoag Public Library will celebrate its 150th birthday at an evening event on Friday, Oct. 22 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., featuring a speaking program, cake and hors d’oeuvres. Read more about the free, public event here.

Citizen’s Police Academy

The Burrillville Police Department will be starting the 2022 Citizen’s Police Academy in January, a 12-week program held on Wednesday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. in the community room at police headquarters. Learn how police investigate crimes, relate to the public and more.

Applications can be picked up at the station at 1477 Victory Highway and the minimum age to apply is 17. Questions can be directed to Lt. William Lacey or Sgt. Robert Veader at (401) 568-6255.

Halloween Bazaar

The Burrillville Historical & Preservation Society will host a Halloween Bazaar and indoor yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 23  from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bridgeton School at 16 Laurel Hill Ave. in Pascoag. The bazaar will feature a Halloween penny social, Halloween crafts, decorations for sale and a spooktacular assortment of delicious homemade treats including homemade apple and pumpkin pies.  There will be an indoor yard sale with many interesting items including books, hand tools, household, clothes, toys, sewing, crochet, macramé items, yarn, games, candles, and more. Locals are invited to sit down and browse through the organization’s historical collections incuding notebooks containing old photos, news articles and other history.  

There are about 130 historical cemeteries in Burrillville, and BH & PS is looking for volunteers to help care for them.  Learn how you can make a difference and about cemetery preservation efforts and gravestone conservation work being done. Call (401) 568-8449 or (401) 500-0433 for more information. 

Town meetings

The Pascoag Fire District will hold a meeting on Monday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. at Hose Co. 2, 141 Howard Ave. The agenda can be found here.

The Burrillville Conservation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 19 starting at 7 p.m. at 103 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.

The Oakland Mapleville Fire District will hold a monthly meeting at 46 Oakland School St. on Wednesday, Oct. 20 starting at 6:45 p.m. The agenda can be found here.
