BURRILLVILLE – Bronco athlete Justin Crawford Jr. has been named Player of the Week by MaxPreps/United Soccer Coaches for his on-field efforts with the undefeated team from Monday, Sept. 13 through Sunday, Sept. 19.
The national organization uses results and statistics provided by MaxPreps.com to select one boy and one girl honoree from each participating state competing during the fall season.
Crawford, an outside midfielder for the Boys Varsity Soccer team, was named Player of the Game following the team’s first match of the season Friday, Sept. 10, scoring three goals in a 6-1 win over Blackstone Valley Prep.
“Dominant game, strong performance,” noted coaching staff in the early season recognition.
The Burrillville team won two games during the week Crawford, a junior at Burrillville High School, was named Rhode Island’s Player of the Week, with a shut out over Rogers, 8-0, on Friday, Sept. 17, with Crawford scoring three of the goals. On Saturday, Sept. 18, the star player again scored three goals in a 6-0 win over Woonsocket.
The Burrillville School District acknowledged the honor this week, noting, “Great job JJ!” on social media.
The boys soccer team has since gone on to win two more matches, putting their season record at 5-0. In a Monday, Sept. 20 match against Davies Career and Tech, Crawford scored two goals and had one assist in a game ending 3-1. He had one goal and one assist in the team’s most recent 4-1 win on Thursday, Sept. 23 over Exeter-West Greenwich.
On Tuesday, Sept. 28, the Bronco team is slated to take on Johnson in a 3:30 p.m. home conference.
Coaches who want to nominate players for the United Soccer Coaches recognition must submit statistics to MaxPreps.com in order for their athletes to be considered. Nominations are due every Sunday.
