Victory Day
Town Hall is closed on Monday, Aug. 9 in observation of Victory Day. Trash and recycling pickup will also not take place on Monday, and pickup will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.
Film festival
Opening night celebration of the 25th annual Rhode Island International Film Festival will take place at the Rustic Drive-In on Tuesday, Aug. 10. A showcase for both domestic and international short films up for Oscar nominations will be followed by a feature length film.
The festival returns to the Rustic Thursday, Aug. 12 for Local Filmmaker Night with a premiere screening followed by a double feature.

Startup podcast
North Smithfield-based business The Care Concierge of New England will be featured in a podcast by Venture Cafe Providence on Thursday, Aug. 12, with a discussion by owner Paul Jones about the company’s start up story. The content can be accessed for free by registering at www.venturecafeprovidence.org, with the program starting at 11:15 a.m.
Parks programs
Two free events put on by the North Smithfield Parks & Recreation Department are scheduled this week, a summer concert and a new, outdoor yoga class.
The yoga program, launched on Saturday on the lawn by Town Hall on Greene Street with instructor Cheryl Marandola, will continue Wednesday, Aug. 11 at the same location starting at 6 p.m. The class will be cancelled in the event of rain or temperatures higher than 85 degrees. On Thursday, Aug. 12, All About Amy, will play a free concert by the Town Hall pavilion from 6 to 8 p.m. as part of the town’s Summer Concert Series. Three food trucks are expected to be on site: Sunnyside on the Street, Sarcastic Sweets and New England Lemonade.
