Animal shelter seeks volunteers

The North Smithfield Animal Shelter is now accepting applications for potential volunteers. Those interested are asked to visit the shelter at 281 Quaker Highway, behind the gas pumps at the Public Works building, and fill out an application. Volunteers will be responsible for providing a BCI.

Turf Work begins

Preparations for the repair, renovations, and replacement of the turf field and track at the North Smithfield High School Athletic Fields – known as Veterans Memorial Stadium – began last week. The School Department has announced that the area will be closed for school and public use until further notice.

Pitch, Hit & Run

North Smithfield Little League co-ed softball begins this Sunday, July 31 at Pacheco Park. Registration is open to kids under the age of 14 and can be completed here.

Whiskey Road Band

The North Smithfield Summer Concert series continues this week with a free performance by Whiskey Rhode Band on Thursday, July 29. Concerts will take place behind Town Hall this year at 83 Greene St, by the gazebo on top of the hill starting at 6 p.m.. Food trucks will be on site for the events and parking is available at Town Hall.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Historic District Commission’s meeting originally scheduled for Monday, July 26 has been rescheduled. The meeting will be held on Monday, August 2 at Heritage Hall at 101 Greene St. starting at 6:30 p.m. The agenda can be found here.

The North Smithfield Personnel Board will hold a meeting on Monday, July 26 starting at 7:30 p.m. at the North Smithfield Police Station Annex at 575 Smithfield Road. The agenda can be found here.

The North Smithfield Sewer Commission will hold a meeting on Thursday, July 29 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall. The agenda can be found here.

A bonus “thing”

The North Smithfield Heritage Association’s annual gala is scheduled to be held at The Village Haven on Saturday, July 31 from 6 to 10 p.m. The event will including dinner, raffles and dancing, with casual dress. Tickets cost $25 per person and can be purchased at Goodwin’s Farm Stand, Lil’General, Village Paint and Town Hall, or by calling (401) 578-4360 or emailing bill@extremesales.net.
