Pantry announces June needs, pickup dates

The North Smithfield Food Pantry has announced that pickup dates for the month of June will take place Tuesdays, June 22 and 29 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays, June 19 and 26 at 10 a.m.

The Food Pantry is for North Smithfield residents and recipients must have a photo ID and a bill to confirm their address. Guests can attend the food pantry all four times it is open per month at the Slatersville Congregational Church UCC on the Common. Due to the pandemic, the food is distributed through a drive through at the church, and visitors are asked to stay in the car and line up on Green Street.

Head start accepting families

Tri-County Community Action Agency is now recruiting for all Head Start options for families that live in North Smithfield, as well as Johnston, North Providence, Smithfield, Burrillville, Foster, Glocester and Scituate. The agency offers home-based services for pregnant women, infants and toddlers, and has part-day and full-day options for toddlers and preschoolers.

Summer concerts announced

The North Smithfield Park & Recreation Department has announced the lineup for the 2021 concert series, to be held by the Town Hall gazebo at 83 Greene St. on select Thursdays in July and August from 6 to 8 p.m. 

Food trucks will also join the events this year, sponsored by Navigant Credit Union, and parking will be available behind Town Hall. The complete lineup is as follows:

July 22: Scott Fowler & Southbound Band

July 29: Whiskey Road Band

August 5: Black Plain Road 

August 12: All About Amy

E-waste drive-through drop-off is Saturday

The town will hold an e-waste drive through collection event on Saturday, June 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the town garage located at 281 Quaker Highway.

Items accepted at no charge will include computers, laptops, monitors, routers, PDAs, cell phones, mice, keyboards, ink jet printers, toner cartridges, CD/DVD players, radios, televisions, network equipment, wires, stereos, plastic speakers, telephones, cameras, microwaves, small household appliances and acid lead batteries. A $10 disposal fee is charged for wooden stereo speakers, laser jet printers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers,  and other coolant containing devices.

Items not accepted include light bulbs, single use batteries, tapes/disks, glass, styrofoam, broken TV tubes or any hazardous materials.

Attendees are asked to stay in their vehicles and wear face coverings.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a special meeting on Monday, June 14 starting at 6:45 p.m. for an agenda that includes discussion of the proposed budget. The agenda and link to attend virtually can be found here.
