Post 88 Coffee Hour

American Legion Berard-Desjarlais Post 88 will hold a Veterans Coffee hour at the Binn’s Building at 111 Chapel St. in Harrisville from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, April 13.

The group holds the events on the second Tuesday of every month, serving coffee and light
refreshments. Any Veteran who needs help with VA and government paperwork, Veterans benefits, or any other veterans issue is welcome.

Prescription drop off

For those looking to dispose of old prescriptions, the Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition will hold a collection event at the Pascoag Fire District on Saturday, April 17. Residents are invited to drop off expired or unused prescriptions at the Pascoag Main Street station for safe disposal from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No needles will be accepted.

Residents are also reminded that there is a prescription drop box available 24/7 in the entryway of the Burrillville Police Department.

Youth Clean Up

During the month of April, the Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition youth members will be cleaning up the town on several dates. The group held their first clean up on Victory Highway on Sunday, April 11, and will continue by cleaning Tarkiln Road on Sunday, April 18; Pascoag Main Street on Tuesday, April 20; East Avenue on Thursday, April 22; and Lapham Farm Road on Sunday, April 25.

Volunteers will meet at the Wallace F. Lees Public Safety Complex on each of the dates before heading out to the roadsides to pick up trash. Students can earn community service hours for helping, and pizza and drinks will be provided after clean ups at the Wallace F. Lees Public Safety Complex.

For more information on volunteering, contact Monica Blanchette at (401) 710-7996 or mblanchette@burrillville.org.

Statue replacement

If you see local artist Tim Turner, remember to thank him for replacing the soldier’s cross statue in front of the Post 88 Binns building.

Turner noticed that the statue had fallen over and went by to fix it, but noticed the feet had rot and provided a new one. The statue had been purchased by the group several years prior.
