Heritage hike, Dough raiser: Five things to know in North Smithfield this week

Heritage Hike

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will host their latest heritage hike on Saturday, April 10, exploring Grange Road and Rocky Hill Road. The hike, which is not recommended for young children will cover the Malavery House, Durrans Farm, NS20, NS30 and Mrva Stone Landscape.

Participants will meet at the North Smithfield High School student parking lot near the tennis courts. Masks are required and comfortable hiking shoes, insect repellent and a bottle of water are suggested.

Parkinson’s race

A virtual 5K organized by North Smithfield High School senior Hailey Hurteau to raise money for Parkinson’s Champions will take place on Saturday, April 10, at 9 a.m. Participants are invited to sign up online and run or walk the race from their chosen location. The registration fee is $25, and people can also donate online. All of the money will go toward research for a cure as well as ensuring care for those living with Parkinson’s disease. Dough Raiser

The North Smithfield High School Class of 2021 will hold a raffle fundraiser on Wednesday, April 7 at UNO Pizzeria & Grill at Smithfield Crossing. Present the flyer below and UNO will donate up to 20 percent of your dine-in or take-out meal to the class.
A raffle will be held at 7 p.m. at the restaurant and tickets will be sold until the drawing at a cost of $5 each for a chance to win prizes valued at more than $500.
Pantry announces April needs, pickup dates

The North Smithfield Food Pantry has announced that pickup dates for the month will be on Saturdays April 17 & 24 from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and Tuesdays April 20 and 27 from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

The food pantry is open to North Smithfield residents and you must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms your town address. You can attend the Food Pantry all four times it is open per month at the Slatersville Congregational Church UCC on the Common.

Due to the pandemic, the food is distributed through a drive through at the church. Those picking up food are asked to stay in their car and line up on Green Street.

The pantry’s needs for the month of April are canned pasta, canned soup, pancake mix and syrup.
