Snow, vaccines and rock paint kits: Five things to know in Burrillville this week

Vaccinations

The town of Burrillville has begun receiving first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for residents age 75 and over. Read about the first round, administered on Saturday, Jan. 30, here. 

According to Town Manager Michael Wood, the next part of town’s vaccination program will begin in mid to late February and information will be publicized in advance via Code Red and news outlets. No action is necessary for those looking to receive the vaccine.

Burrillville Youth Lacrosse

Registration os now open for Burrillville Youth Lacrosse for boys and girls in grades 1-8. The league has lowered the registration fee to $50 for the season. Volunteers are also welcome, and league officials are willing to help to train new coaches.

Rock painting starter kits

Do you have children in town interested in joining the rock painting movement? The ever-growing Burrillville Rocks group has been handing out Kindness Rocks starter gift bags containing rocks, paints, labels and paint brushes.

To learn more follow Burrillville Rocks on Facebook and message “Rock Father” Roger Bourbounniere. Residents and local businesses are also invited to donate supplies for the kits.   

Snow storm blows in

Flakes began falling Monday morning in a storm expected to dump between 6 and 14 inches of snow on the region, according to the latest projections from the National Weather Service. The Burrillville Police Department has issued a parking ban until further notice to allow for storm cleanup.   The storm is expected to come with gusty winds and power outages could occur. BPD reminds residents in the event of a downed utility line, do not attempt to touch or move it, and call Pascoag Utility District or National Grid, depending on the location, or contact BPD via the general business line at 401-568-6255.    The Burrillville School District has cancelled all afternoon activities.   Heavy accumulation is expected and NWS has issued a winter storm warning through 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2. 

Town meetings

The Burrillville Planning Board is scheduled to hold a meeting on Monday, Feb. 1 starting at 7 p.m. The agenda and link to attend virtually can be found here.
