Spring sports, meal sign-up: Five things to know in North Smithfield this week


North Smithfield Little League seeks board members

Registration for North Smithfield Little League will go live on Monday, Feb. 1 and league officials are encouraging everyone to register early. According to an announcement from the league, the volunteer-run organization will follow COVID guidelines.

NSLL is also looking to fill open positions on its board. Potential volunteers are asked to contact the organization through Facebook or email at nsmithfieldplayeragent@gmail.com.

WWIS launches spring soccer clinics

With the statewide announcement that sports leagues are now allowed and children can compete again, Wide World of Indoor Sports has announced that they will be offering five week soccer clinics in the upcoming months.

According to a release from the North Smithfield facility, each player will receive professional instruction on the foundations of the game and will be pushed physically to get a great workout. Those who register for 5 weeks and then re-up or register for 10 weeks and get one class for free.

The cost for a 5 week clinic is $125 or to register for both February and March clinics the total is $225.

February 2021 clinics will take place on Sundays starting Feb. 7 and ending March 7, from 10-11 a.m. for 3-6 year old players and 11 a.m. to noon for 7-12 year-old players. Monday clinics will be held from 5-6 p.m. for 6-8 year olds and 6-7 p.m. for 9 to 12 year olds.

Meal sign up

The North Smithfield district will be offering free meals for all students over February vacation, with recipients to receive breakfast and lunch for each day the school is closed, including weekends.

Those in need of meals or who have questions are asked to email malina.ek@compass-usa.com or call (401) 597-6128. The deadline to sign up is Friday, Jan. 29.

Pick up for all 10 breakfasts and lunches will be held on Friday, Feb. 12.

New drop box location

The payment drop box at North Smithfield Town Hall has been relocated and can now be found near the back entrance to the building at 83 Greene St.

Town meetings

The owners of Beef Barn have made major progress on the project to relocate the restaurant to the former Homestead Gardens on Industrial Drive. According to a post this week, an opening date will be announced soon.
