5K, Santa calling, free holiday pics: Five things to know in Burrillville this week

Broncos 5K

The Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition will hold its second annual 5K next Sunday, Nov. 15, with a socially distanced event that will raise scholarship funds for graduating Burrillville seniors.

The deadline to sign up for the run/walk is Saturday, Nov. 14. Registration costs $30 for adults or $20 for those 18 and under, and can be found here.

Santa calling, snack drive 

Sign-ups for the Burrillville Parks & Recreation Department’s annual Santa Calling program have begun, and parents with children in grades 2 and under are invited to schedule a free phone call with Mr. Kringle.

Santa will call kids between Dec. 2 and Dec. 6, and the deadline to register is Wednesday, Nov. 25. Forms to sign up for a call are available at https://www.burrillville.org/parks-recreation/news/santa-calling.

This Saturday, Nov. 14, there will be a collection drive for another program operated the Parks Department. The Steere Farm PTA is having a Weekend Snack Pack drive at Steere Farm Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The touch-less drop off event will benefit families in the community, helping to keep Burrillville students fed through the weekends. The group is hoping to collect items including pasta, mac and cheese, canned meals, soups and individually wrapped snacks.

Free holiday pictures

Westie Realty Group in Pascoag is sponsoring free Christmas photographs for families at an event on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Assembly Theatre. Local professional photographer Jeanne Hauser will email a digital picture to all participants and will have forms available for those who want to order prints.

Veterans Day

Wednesday, Nov. 11 is Veteran’s Day and the Burrillville Allied Veterans Council American Legion Posts 17 & 88 and VFW Post 1023 will hold a ceremony via Facebook Live to mark the holiday, honoring those who have served.

With COVID-19 regulations in effect prohibiting gatherings, residents are invited to instead view it online. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. and can be viewed here.

There will be no trash or recycling pickup Wednesday and pickup will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
