Deadline extended

The organizers of the Pumpkin People of North Smithfield decorating contest have extended the deadline to submit your creation, for the chance to win a cash prize, to Monday, Oct. 26.

To take part, just submit a picture of your display via the event Facebook page, and message the hosts your address. Judges will be choosing the most creative, funniest and best overall. Three $100 prizes have been donated by Goodwin Bros. Farms and winners will be announced on Halloween.

Drive through job fair

The Saint Antoine Community is hiring nursing, housekeeping and kitchen staff and will hold a drive-through job fair on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 7 a.m. to noon and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Positions offer flexible hours and benefits packages.

Town Council Forum

NRI NOW will host a virtual forum for Town Council candidates on Wednesday, Oct. 21 starting at 7 p.m. The event will be streamed live on the NRI NOW Facebook page and will remain there for viewing or sharing through election day on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The deadline for readers to submit questions for the candidates is today, Monday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m.

Flag display

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will host a celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage event on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Heritage Hall at 101 Green St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Masks are required and social distancing rules will be observed.

As part of the event, the organization will display one of their most prized artifacts, the Slatersville Grenadiers, Dorr Rebellion Flag, that was used in 1843 to promote support for men’s suffrage.

The group is currently working on plans to restore the artifact.

The event is open to the public.

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold its regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 19 starting at 6:45 p.m. The agenda and instructions to attend virtually can be found here.
