Former North Smithfield councilor Masnyk dies at age 69

NORTH SMITHFIELD – A former town council president who built a career in hospitality died on Monday, Sept. 28 losing her battle to recover from an accident earlier this month.

Lynda Masnyk, 69, of North Smithfield, died in the Hope Health Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late John and Clementine Manning.

A Democrat who served on the council in the 1990s, Masnyk served as director of scheduling for Gov. Bruce Sundlun.

Masnyk graduated from St. Clare High School in 1969 and received an associate’s degree in business administration in 1974. A Providence Pike resident, Masnyk worked in hospitality sales for more than 25 years, with work for the Westin in Providence and Starwood Hotels, Boston. Most recently, she served as business travel sales manager for Graduate Providence and the Providence Biltmore.

She is survived by her son Alexander Masnyk of New York, NY.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct, 8 from 5-8 p.m. at Holt Funeral Home at 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. According to an announcement on the service, social distancing guidelines will be implemented. A graveside service will be held Friday, Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery on Church Street in Slatersville. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to Hope Health, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
