Lady driven event, Blood drive: Five things to know in North Smithfield this week

Rebuild Mt. Pleasant Academy

Texas Roadhouse will host a fundraiser this week to help rebuild Mt.Pleasant Academy, which experienced a flood in August that destroyed most of the school.  The school services special needs children who need more assistance than most public schools are able to give.

The restaurant at Dowling Village will host a dine to donate event on Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m., where 20 percent of food sales will go directly to the school to assist with repairs, supplies, and other reopening needs.

Register

For residents who are not already registered to vote, the last date to register to be eligible to vote in the General Election scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, is Sunday, Oct. 4.

From 1 to 4 p.m., voter registration forms will be made available in the lobby of the North Smithfield Police Station at 575 Smithfield Road for new voter registrations and to correct names and addresses of registered voters.

If you would like to receive a Mail Ballot for the upcoming election, visit Vote.ri.gov or call (401)767-2200 ext. 504 to request an application. The deadline to submit a Mail Ballot Application is Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m.

Blood drive

The John Martins Foundation  will be hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at New England Truck Solutions at 140 Industrial Drive from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. To make an appointment to donate visit ribc.org/drives using sponsor code 3971. Walk-ins will only be accepted if space spacing permits. Donors are reminded to eat, stay hydrated and bring identification.

The Fast & the Furious

Lady Driven New England will host their first ever public event this week in North Smithfield, a movie screening of The Fast and The Furious at Rustic Drive-In on Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 7 to 11 p.m.

The group was created in May of 2020 to bring New England lady motor enthusiasts together to share, connect and learn together from each other.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Historic District Commission has cancelled the meeting originally scheduled for Monday, Sept. 28. The commission’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26.

The North Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department will hold a meeting on Monday, Sept. 28 starting at 7 p.m. The agenda and instructions to attend virtually can be found here.
