BURRILLVILLE – A Providence woman is facing three felony counts of possession of narcotics following a search by Burrillville Police K9 Rex earlier this month that turned up dozens of prescription pills of varying brands.

Chelsea Mann, 30, was arrested following the incident on Monday, July 6.

According to police, Mann was the passenger in a vehicle spotted traveling on Broncos Highway around 9 p.m. that evening. The car had a side taillight out, and an officer reports watching Mann make quick, furtive movements after spotting his cruiser. The registration on the vehicle came up as suspended.

Police stopped the car, and reports note that Mann seemed “incredibly nervous,” as an officer asked for her identification. Mann reportedly covered her groin with both hands to conceal something as she retrieved her ID from a fanny pack.

Prior to thevstart of a K9 search of the vehicle, Mann told police she had a small amount of marijuana in her pack.

As the search began, K9 Rex jumped through the open front driver’s side window of the vehicle, and displayed an odor response to the front passenger seat, locating Mann’s purse on the floor.

Police located two syringes under the seat where Mann was sitting, along with the purse, which contained a Ziploc bag with various prescription pills.

Mann reportedly told police that the syringes contained a mix of water and fetanyl, which she had previously injected. She also told officers she had hid additional Xanex pills in her crotch.

Mann retrieved a bag containing blue pills from her body under supervision of female Officer Rebecca Carvalho.

According to police, Mann’s purse contained 11 Omeprazole; one Dexmethylphenidate; one Prampipexole Dihydrocchloride; two Amphetamine, 15.5 Alprozolam; and two unknown capsules.

Mann was arraigned in 6th District Court and has a pre-arraignment conference scheduled for October 7.
