Crash on 146 in No. Smithfield leads to arrest of city man


NORTH SMITHFIELD – An accident on Route 146 early Sunday morning led to DUI charges for a 51-year-old Woonsocket man.

Lee Gervais, 51, of 547 Clinton Street Apt. 812 was picked up by Rhode Island State Police following the crash, which took place on the southbound side of the highway near Old Sayles Hill Road around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, briefly blocking the shoulder of the road. He has been charged with driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs, blood results pending, first offense.

Gervais was taken to Rhode Island Hospital following the accident and provided a blood sample, the results of which are still pending, according to police in a release this week. He was then transported to State Police headquarters, processed and held overnight pending a special arraignment.
