34-year-old Woonsocket woman dies after being struck by car in North Smithfield

NORTH SMITHFIELD – A pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Greenville Road Wednesday evening has died from her injuries according to a release from the North Smithfield Police Department.

Candice Destefani, 34, of Woonsocket died at the hospital following the accident, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to the area of 341 Greenville Road around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11 and reportedly found Destefani lying on the side of the road with life threatening injuries.

She was transported to Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket and then to Rhode island Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The operator of the motor vehicle that struck Destefani is not facing charges, criminal or traffic, and there was no preliminary evidence of impaired or distracted driving, according to police.

The incident is still under investigation by the North Smithfield Accident Reconstruction Unit.
