Preservation, standing tall

The Burrillville Historical & Preservation Society will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday,Sept. 17 at Bridgeton School starting at 7 p.m., followed by a presentation by BHPS President Betty Mencucci with a slideshow telling the story of the preservation and conservation of the Sayles Cook Cemetery in Pascoag. The work involved the resetting of three 15 foot monuments.

The event is free. The public is invited to attend. Call 568-8449 or 500-0433 for more information.

Cocktails for a cause

Bayberry Commons will host Cocktails for a Cause on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. at Pinewood Pizza and Pub at 16 Terry Lane in Chepachet. The event costs $5 and will include free pizza and appetizers. There will also be split the pot and wine basket raffles. For more information or to purchase a ticket call (401) 568-0600.

Broncos Sack hunger

The Burrillville High School football booster club is working with St. Vincent de Paul on a Thanksgiving Food Drive. Just bring a non-perishable food item to any Freshman, JV or or Varsity home game. Most needed items include olives, stuffing, turkey gravy, quick breads, coffee and tea. The players will deliver food collected to St. Vincent de Paul after the final varsity home game of the regular season, which takes place Nov. 2.

In other Broncos news, a fundraiser to support the Burrillville High School football program will be held at Uncle Ronnie’s Red Tavern on Monday, Sept. 30 and will include a roasted chicken buffet, DJ/MC and raffles. The booster club will be available at the ECC during and after practice on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 5 to 6 p.m. selling tickets. Tickets cost $20 and will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.

Resolving tax confusion

Harrisville Fire District taxpayers with questions about their bills can visit the district office this week. The Board of Assessors will be at 115 Central St. on Sept. 18, 19 and 20, from 7 to 8 p.m., to answer questions pertaining to 2019 fire district tax bills.

Town meetings

The Branch River Park & Track Exploratory Committee will hold their regular meeting will hold their regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 16 starting at 6 p.m. at the Burrillville town building.

The Screening Subcommittee will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. at the Burrillville town building at 105 Harrisville Main St.
