NORTH SMITHFIELD – The discovery of a dead body near North Smithfield High School prompted officials to delay classes throughout the district by an hour on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
The body was reportedly discovered by a bus driver who notified police.
“While we realize that delaying school was last minute, we wanted to allow the police time to do their work, which is in this case was best done without students watching,” noted the North Smithfield Public Schools Facebook page. “This was not a current North Smithfield student.”
The death is not considered suspicious, according to police, who identified the victim as an adult male, but have not released further information.
The body was reportedly found by the school’s tennis courts.
