Two hospitalized following crash on Route 102

BURRILLVILLE – Two people were hospitalized and one transported via life flight following a collision on Friday, June 21 on Route 102.

The crash took place at the intersection of Douglas Pike after a car traveling north Friday evening attempted to turn on the road, and was hit by an oncoming vehicle traveling south.

Police have not released the names of the drivers, but said that one vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler, was operated by a 17-year-old, the other car,  a four-door Chevrolet, was driver by a 22-year-old male. The call came in around 10:35 p.m. Friday night.

The older male sustained injuries to his leg, and was trapped inside the car, according to police. The jaws of life were needed to extricate the man, and a life flight helicopter transported him to Rhode Island Hospital.

The juvenile was treated and also transported to a hospital by rescue.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
