BURRILLVILLE – Burrillville Animal Control is looking for donations for the veterinary care of 25 cats rescued from a Pascoag home.

The cats were rescued last week according to posts on the Animal Control Facebook page, and are in need of various levels of medical attention.

Police have not released the names of the homeowners or filed charges in the case, but have reportedly said there may be counts of animal cruelty and neglect.

Burrillville police officers reportedly went to the home for an unrelated call and noticed the condition of the animals, relaying the incident to Animal Control.

Five of the cats need removal of an eye due to ulcers and untreated infections. Many are suffering from upper respiratory infections and all need routine care such as vaccinations, and spay and neutering. Four are pregnant, according to Animal Control.

“Surgeries will be scheduled in the coming weeks as cats become well enough for anesthesia,” shelter officials noted in a Facebook post.  “We need your help with the excessive vet bills that will come from getting these cats healthy and ready for adoption.”

The Oakland-based shelter was able to transfer several of the animals to other facilities.

Several of the cats were placed up for adoption on Friday, Oct. 12.

“Some of these kitties are more outgoing than others but they will blossom in homes where they will get plenty of attention,” Animal Control officials wrote.

Later in the week, the shelter thanked all of those who had donated, and neighboring shelters that had helped out.

“Several cats have now been transferred, some have already gone to new homes, more will be going to new homes by the end of the week, and a couple are in foster care. We have several more who are not yet ready for surgery,” noted a post. “Your help has gotten us through a period of crisis.”
