Tax bills

The town’s 2018 tax bills were mailed out on Tuesday, July 10 and town hall officials are advising residents to contact the Tax Assessor’s Office at 401-568-4300 ext. 181 if they have any questions or if they have not received a bill by Friday, July 20.

Quarterly Tax Payments are due on the below dates before 12 percent interest is assessed. If a date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payments can be made the following business day without interest.

First Quarter : July 26 (Interest date August 13)
Second Quarter: October 15 (Interest date November 2)
Third Quarter: January 15, 2019 (Interest date February 2, 2019)
Fourth Quarter: April 15, 2019 (Interest date May 2, 2019)

The Burrillville Historical & Preservation Society is organizing a travel fundraiser with a 12-day trip to Costa Rica departing next year. To learn more about the adventure, attend a free travel presentation by Collette Tours on Thursday, July 26 at 6 p.m. at Uncle Ronnie’s Red Tavern on Victory Highway. The 12-day trip departs March 9, 2019 and includes 23 meals.

Candidate deadline

Nomination papers for candidates running in the November election must be submitted at the town clerk’s office by 4 p.m. today. According to Administrative Aide Pam Pelltier, most of the candidates who declared that they were running back in June are expected to stay in the race. Only Darcy Bouchard, who initially planned to run for the School Committee, has officially backed out.

Play softball

Tryouts for a girls’ fast pitch softball league begin this week, starting with an event for pitchers and catchers on Wednesday, July 18. Rampage Softball offers indoor practices and is open to all age groups.  To register to try out visit https://www.rirampagesoftball.com/join_us

Scratch tickets

The committee for No New Power Plant has organized a Scratch Ticket Raffle. The winner will win a book of 100 $5 dollar scratch tickets. Tickets are $20 and will help support the fight against the plant. To purchase a ticket, contact Julia O’Rourke or stop by East Coast Artsians in Pascoag.
