Registration opens for summer sports, art and more in Burrillville

BURRILLVILLE – The Burrillville Parks & Recreation Department has released a full list of programming available this summer, offering residents plenty of opportunity to stay active and enjoy the warmer months.

Spacing in some programs is limited, and participants are advised to sign up now for activities starting next month.

Safe Sitter Program” for ages 11 to 14 will take place on Friday, June 22 at the Burrillville Middle School from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $50 per participant, includes all materials. Participants will learn safe childcare practices, good babysitting skills and how to be responsible adolescents. Instructors are enthusiastic & committed to teens with most being registered nurses and all certified to teach Safe Sitter. Pre-registration is required by contacting Robin Zaman at 431-5410.

Summer Tennis Junior’s Program will take place each Saturday for six weeks beginning Saturday, June 30. Lessons will be taught by Jacqueline Ray and Andrew Steere, experienced Rally Point Racquet Club instructors. The program for juniors ages 6 to 10 will utilize low compression tennis balls for beginners and ages 11 to 15 to use regular tennis balls. Both age groups will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. All ability levels are welcome. The cost is $50 per participant for the six weeks. All lessons will take place at the tennis courts adjacent to the Burrillville High School. Summer Tennis Adult Program will take place each Saturday for six weeks beginning Saturday, June 30. Summer Multi-Sport will take place at the Callahan School Gym. Skilled and experienced instructors conduct a program focusing on playground and sports games. Kids have fun learning skills and how to be part of a team. The program will be offered for children ages 6 through 12 during the weeks of June 25 to June 28, and August 20 to August 23. The program will take place at the Callahan Elementary School Gym from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fee for the 4-day per week program is $80 each participant per week and $65 each for siblings, or $25 per individual day. Each participant must wear sneakers and parents/guardians are required to pack a cold bag lunch & drink for their child. “Burrillville Summer Hoops” will take place during the week of July 16 to July 19 at the Burrillville Middle School gymnasium and at the outside basketball courts. Camp highlights include experienced coaches, skills stations, shooting & offensive skills, individual skills competitions, T-shirt, and written evaluations for all campers. The basketball camp for ages 6 to 9 is from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at a cost of $80 for four days per participant and from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for ages 10 to 16 at a cost of $95 for four days per participant. “Summer Art Camp” will be offered for kids ages 6-12 during the week of July 23 to July 26, and August 6 to August 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at a cost of $100 per session including all materials per participant. Register by July 2 for a $5 discount. Each day will explore a different theme using a variety of materials. Classes will be held at the Burrillville Recreation Center at 50 Lodge Road, Pascoag. “Xspot Summer Archery Camp” will be offered for kids ages 7-14 during the week of July 30 to August 2 from 9 a.m. and noon at a cost of $100 including all necessary equipment. Classes will be held at the Burrillville Recreation Center 50 Lodge Road, Pascoag. Contact Xspot Archery to register for the classes at 508-399-6762 or e-mail at xspotarchery@yahoo.com.

Other ongoing classes at the lodge include Boot Camp, Zumba, Tap Dancing for Fun, Yoga, Kid’s Yoga, and the Play to Learn program.

“Forever Fit” Senior Fitness will be relocated during the summer months to downstairs at St. Joseph’s Church, Sayles Avenue, Pascoag each Monday and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. from July 2 through August 2. There will be no classes August 6 or August 9. Classes will resume at the Lodge beginning August 13.

“Itty Biddy Sports” will be relocated during the summer months to the Pavilion adjacent the Jesse Smith Memorial Library at Stillwater Center in Harrisville each Wednesday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. from July 11 through August 8. Classes will resume at the Lodge beginning August 15.
