Road work, taxes, GDTC meeting and Spring Fair: Six things to know in Glocester this week

Road work

The Glocester Police Department is notifying residents that starting on Tuesday, April 30, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Putnam Pike between Knighthawk Auto and Glocester Child Care Center will have a lane shift and/or alternating traffic due to RIDOT construction. The project will last approximately three weeks, and drivers are advised to plan travel accordingly and exercise caution while in the area. Detail officers will be present to assist with traffic.

Tax payments

The town of Glocester is reminding residents that fourth quarter tax payments are due on Wednesday, May 1. Taxes unpaid after Monday, June 3 are subject to an 8 percent penalty per annum retroactive to August 1, 2023. Failure to receive a tax bill will not excuse the non payment or any related interest/penalty.

Payments can be made at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, by Visa/Mastercard at www.RIeGovernment.com, on the town website at www.glocesterri.gov/departments.htm#collector or by check via the payment drop box.

GDTC meeting

Glocester Democratic Town Committee will hold a meeting Wednesday, May 1 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Glocester Manton Library at 1137 Putnam Pike. All registered Democrats are welcome to attend and the guest will be a member of the state Board of Elections. Those considering a run for Town Council , or any of the General Assembly seats that encompass districts 23,40,47 or 53 is welcome to bring questions.

Spring Fair

The Glocester Senior Center at 1210 Putnam Pike, will host its Spring Fair on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests will have the chance to shop with local crafters, vendors, and artisans. Support the Senior Center with purchases from its bake table, sewing table, plant table, raffles, and more. Admission is free and non-perishable food donations for the food pantry will be collected.

Firefighter’s Ball

The Harmony Fire District will celebrate 100 years of service to the community at their first Firefighter’s Ball, to be held Saturday, May 11 at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick starting at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $50 and are available at the front office at 194 Putnam Pike or by visiting harmonyfd.com.

The Glocester Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, April 30 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Economic Development Commission meeting originally scheduled for May 1 has been cancelled.

The Glocester Town Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday, May 2 starting at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is expected to be posted 48 hours in advance on the Secretary of State’s website here.
