KBVB cleanup

Keep Blackstone Valley Beautiful will hold a cleanup of a heavily littered area of town on Monday, April 22 from 4 to 6 p.m., targeting River and Canal Streets, starting in Woonsocket. Adult volunteers are invited to participate and will meet at the American Legion Fairmount parking lot at 870 River St. in Woonsocket at 4 p.m.

How to invest

Good Working at 585 Smithfield Road will hold a free introductory class for beginners on how to invest in real estate on Monday, April 22 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Learn more and register here.

CERT training

The North Smithfield Emergency Management Agency will begin a Community Emergency Response Training course this week, open to residents age 16 and up. Classes will be held Tuesday nights from April 23 to June 16 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. To sign up or learn more, contact instructor Jay Levenson at (401) 230-9327 or the town’s EMA office at (401) 767-2260 ext. 510.

Drive in opening

The Rustic Tri View Drive In at 1195 Eddie Dowling Highway will open for the season on Friday, April 26. Catch a movie on one of the three large screens Friday night, with the line up to be listed here.

Support session

Registration remains open for kindergarten at North Smithfield Public Schools for all children living in North Smithfield who will turn age 5 by September 1. Parents can register here. For those who need help registering or submitting the required documents, a support session will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 9 to 11 a.m. at North Smithfield Elementary School. Questions can be directed to (401) 765-2260.

Clean & Green Day

The town’s annual Clean & Green Day will take place on Saturday, April 27, starting at  at 8 a.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St., where organizers will pass out t-shirts and cleaning supplies, and offer coffee and doughnuts to volunteers. Groups can choose an area to clean and register at the event website here, or just show up at Town Hall that morning.

New this year, the Clean & Green Day Committee will hold a number of contests for a chance to win a $45 gift certificate to Texas Roadhouse. Learn more on the group’s Facebook page.

Cemetery tour

The North Smithfield Heritage Association’s tours of Hotchkiss Cemetery continue this week from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 27. Take a one hour guided walking tour and learn about the lives of some of the oldest inhabitants of North Smithfield and Smithfield, with highlights to include visiting veterans’ graves, the discovery of the old town tomb and some sad stories that were almost lost to the past.

Tours will continue every Saturday through May 25 beginning at 9 a.m. Participants may park at Union Cemetery on Smithfield Road, but are asked not park on paved roadways. In case of rain, check the NSHA Facebook page for cancellations.

Touch a Farm Truck

Wright’s Dairy Farm at 200 Woonsocket Hill Road invites visitors to Touch a Farm Truck on Saturday, April 27 from noon to 3 p.m. The free event is open for all ages and will take place rain or shine. Check out the farm trucks at the working dairy farm and bakery.

Trivia night

Slatersville Congregational Church at 25 Green St. will hold a trivia night on Saturday, April 27 starting at 6 p.m. The evening will include dinner and dessert, and each table will compete. Free will offerings will be accepted. To sign up call (401) 769-2773 or email slatersvillechurch@gmail.com.

Town meetings

The Personnel Board will hold a meeting on Monday, April 22 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the police station at 575 Smithfield Road. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, April 23 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of North Smithfield Middle School. The agenda is here.

The Town Council sitting as the Municipal Building Review Task Force will hold a meeting on Wednesday, April 24 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
