BURRILLVILLE – The Burrillville Democratic Town Committee will hand out mail-in ballot applications on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Harrisville Main Street near the Harrisville Post Office and the Burrillville Planning Department. The applications are for the November 2020 election.
This is the second time the group has held such an event.
“We were successful with our first-ever drive by mail-in ballot application event. Now it’s time to do another,” said Kathan Lambert, chair of the BDTC. “Downloading and printing from a web site can prove a challenge to many who don’t have a good internet connection or a printer. The whole process of mail in voting is a whole lot easier if we just give voters an application.”
Applications for a mail-in ballot have increased statewide and all across the country because of COVID-19 and out of abundance of caution as a substitute for voting in person on election day.
The applications can be mailed or delivered to the local board of canvassers so they receive the application no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
“We don’t have the results of the September primary election, but from all indications, early voting and vote by mail is a big hit in this region,” said Lambert. “The bottom line is that we want to make voting easier and we want people to vote.”
The BDTC handed out more than 30 applications at their first drive-by ballot event on August 16.
“We want to get the word out that democracy stays alive when people become actively involved,” Lambert said. “We are doing our part. We also want to build confidence in this approach.”
The event is non-partisan and any Rhode Island registered voter who wants to vote in the November general election can get an application. Applications are due in the local Board of Canvassers no later than 4 p.m. on October 13.
“If you live in Burrillville, Glocester or North Smithfield this is a good opportunity to get an application,” said Lambert.
