The latest in-progress screening for director Christian de Rezendes’s docu-series on Slatersville will be held this week through a collaboration with the Museum of Work & Culture.

The Virtual Valley Summer Talk will take place on Wednesday, July 22 at 4 p.m. with presentation of  “The Wedding Present with 27 Rooms,” a 10-15 minute segment of the film, followed by a Q & A with the director.

Christmas in July

Wright’s Dairy Farm and Bakery will host Christmas in July starting this week, Thursday, July 23 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The business will be offering more than a dozen items from their Christmas product line that are usually only available during the month of December, along with a special ice cream flavor and sundae, from the scoop shop that will only be available during the week.

The bakery is not offering in-store sales at this time, and all orders must be placed online and picked up with no-contact curbside pickup.

Tour The Blunders

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will offer a guided tour of The Blunders & early colonial road, Nipsachuck National Battlefield & Black Plain Hill Native American Ceremonial Stone Landscape on Saturday, July 25 starting at 9 a.m.

Participants will meet in the North Smithfield Middle School parking lot on Providence Pike and must wear a cloth mask. A hat, long pants, comfortable walking shoes, water and insect repellent are recommended.

N.S. Waves

Watch for signs to appear around town in a program operated through the Rhode Island Department of Transportation encouraging safety at the town’s crosswalks and intersections.

The Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Initiative reminds walkers and bikers to “stop, look and wave,” with bulletin boards at the North Smithfield Police Station, across from Brigidos IGA, across from Goodwin Brothers Farm and next to the Slatersville Mill complex.

Resident are encouraged to take photos with the signs and post them on social media with the hashtags #riwaves #nswaves or email the pictures, along with a statement to engagenorthsmithfield@gmail.com. Photos will be featured  on the Engage North Smithfield website and submitted to RIWaves.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold their regular meeting on Monday, July 20 via Zoom starting at 6:45 p.m. The agenda and instructions to attend can be found here.

The North Smithfield School Committee will host their regular meeting via Zoom on Tuesday, July 21 starting at 6:30 p.m. for an agenda that can be found here.
