Algonquin gas, free lunch for kids: Five things to know in Burrillville this week

Odorized gas release 

Starting on Monday, June 22 through Saturday, June 27, Algonquin Gas Transmission, LLC will be intermittently releasing odorized natural gas at its valve site near the intersection of Sherman Farm Road and West Ironstone Road in Harrisville between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Company representatives will reportedly be on site during the work, and there may be noise and/or odor associated with the activity. Questions can be directed to the office in Westwood, Mass. at (508) 938-7728 or by calling the Enbridge gas control 24-hour line at (800) 726-8383.

Arts festival update

Organizers say that it looks like a “go,” for the Burrillville Arts Festival, currently scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19 and 20, on the grounds of the Assembly Theatre.  The event features more than 100 crafters and artists, live entertainment, kids activities and a laser light show.

At last check, nearly all vendor spots were filled for the event, although limited space may still be available. Those interested should contact burrillvilleartsfestival@aol.com.

Lunch program

The Burrillville Summer Meals program is set to begin next week, with meals served free daily to any child under the age of 18 at Callahan Elementary School starting on Wednesday, July 1, and 103 Main St. Pascoag starting on Monday, July 6, from from noon to 1 p.m. There are no income or registration requirements for the program, which began in 2018, and aims to provide free meals to students while school is out for summer.

Farmer’s market

Another local event taking place amid restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19 continues this Saturday, June 27 at the Stillwater Mill Pavilion.

The Burrillville Farmer’s Market features local food, art and music every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through September 26.

Masks are required at the weekly events, and a new booth has been added this year with URI Community First Responders, handing out free Narcon Nasal spray kits & reduction supplies.

Town meetings

The Burrillville Town Council will hold their regular meeting via Zoom on Wednesday, June 24 starting at 7 p.m. The agenda and instructions to attend can be found here.
