Green Festival, a hypnotist & a Field Day: Five things you need to know in Burrillville this weekend

Visit the Assembly Theatre tonight, Friday, Sept. 6 to catch Lon Cerel’s Out of Your Mind, an entertaining evening of comedy mind reading. The show costs $15 and doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the performance starting at 7:30 p.m.

Green Festival

Burrillville’s 13th annual Green Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Sept 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Stillwater Mill Center. The Pascoag Utility District and The Town of Burrillville’s Parks and Recreation Department put on the festival, and will hand out reusable bags packed with energy saving information, recycling tips and much more to the first 500 attendees.

As part of the event, Rhode Island Resource Recovery Center will present a free composting workshop at Jesse Smith Memorial Library starting at 11 a.m. The workshop that will give you all the information you need to start composting in your backyard, with topics including different ways to compost, what goes and does not go in your compost bin, and the best practices for managing your bin, and for harvesting, applying, and supplementing your finished compost.

The rain date for the event is Saturday, Sept. 21, but as of Friday afternoon, no cancellation had been announced.

Fall Festival & Field Day

The annual Wallum Lake Rod and Gun Club Fall Festival and Field Day will be held on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will include fun activities for all ages. Stop by the range and shoot handguns and rifles including the 50 BMG Barrett rifle. Try your hand with a shotgun at skeet or trap.

There will be archery, Airsoft, BB guns and paintball for the kids, as well as other fun activities.

Enjoy live music, delicious food and plenty of other events for both adults and children.

According to organizers, the event is going to be “epic” this year, with a magic show, a balloon artist, face painting, Batman, a firewall slide, kid’s batting cage and the double rush obstacle course

Parking and admission is free.

Mad Hatter

Return to the Assembly Sunday night to catch Mad Hatter, playing classic rock from the 1960’s to present. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7:30 show, which costs $15.

Violin

Also on Sunday, Grace Note Farm and co-sponsor Burrillville Land Trust present “Fall in Love with the violin Again,” from 2 to 4 p.m.

Music at the Farm concert series continues with the return of international violinist David Bernat, with Elias Dagher, piano. They will perform Beethoven, Schubert, Janacek, Bach, Gluck and Vaughan Williams and a piece by a Chinese composer.

Guests may bring a picnic lunch prior to the concert and are invited to enjoy home made desserts and tour the grounds after the concert.
