Hello Folks! Melissa here. It’s been a while since my last post, but hopefully they will come more often now that we are back to our school routine!
Watch Hill is a coastal village of Westerly, Rhode Island that sits at the southernmost point of the state. Known for its scenic beaches and small shopping area, Watch Hill has a bit of everything that a family could be looking for a weekend get-away….if you can afford it. Taylor Swift owns a private house in Watch Hill.
I took my son Chase there a few weekends ago. Instead of paying $30 for parking, I decided to drive around the small central village three times until side street parking was available. Side street parking is for two-hour increments, and is watched closely by security. When we arrived, we took a 5 minute stroll along the harbor, checking out all the huge yachts along the way to the public restrooms. Chase immediately wanted to ride on the carousel.
The Flying Horse Carousel is luckily very inexpensive ($1.50 per ride) and it’s neat because the kids get to grab little silver rings during the ride that they collect and place on the horses’ ears. Directly behind the carousel is the beautiful beach, which costs $3.00 per person to enjoy. The waves are not big at all and you have a great view of the lighthouse. We spent about an hour relaxing on the beach, grabbed some ice cream, and headed back to the car before the time expired!
When visiting Watch Hill, there is so much more to do and see than what we did. The infamous Ocean House Inn is a tourist favorite, serving up elegant meals with 5-star rooms. You can walk to the cliffs and fish, enjoy some local shopping, grab some ice cream and visit the Watch Hill Lighthouse seasonally.
