Warwick man arrested after trying to escape police on dirt bike

BURRILLVILLE – A Warwick man has been charged with reckless driving, obstructing an officer and driving with a suspended license after the dirt bike he was on got stuck in a field while he was reportedly trying to escape police.

Ian Cornelio Ventura, 20, of 426 Atlantic Ave., Warwick was arrested by Burrillville police on Wednesday, Aug. 15, around 11:30 p.m.

According to reports, Patrolman Vincente Baffoni spotted four dirt bikes without registration plates on Lapham Farm Road. When Baffoni tried to pull the bikes over, all four sped up and ran through a stop sign.

The bikes turned into a field by the intersection of Lapham Farm and Broncos Highway, and three of the drivers sped away according to Baffoni. The fourth bike, operated by Ventura, was stuck.

Dispatch advised officers that Ventura’s license was suspended. He told police that he did not know the other drivers and that a friend had driven him and the bike from Warwick to Burrillville.

Ventura was was held overnight and transported to 6th District Court the following morning for his arraignment. He was also issued citations for speeding 11+ over the speed limit, two counts of obedience to stop sign, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and operating an unregistered recreational vehicle.
