BURRILLVILLE – The North Smithfield Town Council tabled discussion Monday on the potential purchase 114 acres of land on Old Smithfield Road.
The vacant land was previously part of the historic Isaac Wilkinson homestead, a lot holding a 12-room estate built in 1829. Since at least September, councilors have been meeting with property owners Souza Family Limited Partnership in executive session to discuss the potential purchase.
A council agenda on Monday, Dec. 2, listed action on 950 Old Smithfield, “Plat 13, Lot 25,” as part of the public meeting. The land, however, was recently subdivided, a change not yet reflected on town GIS maps, which show a single lot.
Realtor for the property Kimberly Marion told NRI NOW this week that the board has expressed interest in only the lot with the vacant land, a 114-acre parcel that was subdivided from the historic home two weeks ago. It is currently listed for sale as 0 Old Smithfield Road for $429,000.
Council members did speak with the landowners in closed session, but it seems little progress was made on a potential deal. Marion noted that there were no revised offers, and council members quickly tabled the matter in open session.
