Earth Day, yard sale & a planning award: Six things to know in Glocester this week

Earth Day

The town of Glocester will hold its annual Earth Day cleanup on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. Participants will meet at the Kent Field Pavilion on Main Street to receive bags and gloves, and to be assigned an area to clean. The first 50 participants to sign up will receive a free Glocester Earth Day t-shirt.

Planner recognition

The Rhode Island chapter of the American Planning Association has recognized the Chepachet Village Revitalization Plan and Glocester Town Planner Karen Scott with the Award for Excellence in Plan Implementation. The plan, completed in 2020, targeted revitalization in Chepachet Village, creating a five-year implementation and investment plan to identify opportunities for scattered site affordable housing within mixed-use development, preserve historic resources, and strengthen and expand small businesses.

“Over the past four years, the town has had incredible success securing funding to guide transformative projects,” noted the organization.

Scott will be honored at the group’s awards party on Thursday, April 24 at The Meehan Overlook in North Providence.

Yard sale

The Glocester Heritage Society will hold its annual yard sale and vendor craft fair on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1043 Putnam Pike. Shop antiques, jewelry, crafts and more to benefit the organization.

Drug take back

Saturday, April 25 is the Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Take Back Day, when communities across the country are asked to properly dispose of old and unneeded medications safely and anonymously. To do your part, just drop off old medications at the Glocester police station at 162 Chopmist Hill Road on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Opening

Harmony Products at 474 Putnam Pike will officially open for the season this weekend, with regular hours on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. going forward. Check out new products in the gift shop and take a ride on the train, weather permitting.

Town meetings

The Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting will hold a meeting on Tuesday, April 22 starting at 6 p.m. in the library of Ponaganset High School at 137 Anan Wade Road. The agenda is here.

The Harmony Fire District Executive Board will hold a budget workshop on Tuesday, April 22 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the station at 194 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.
