Northern RI – With the latest winter storm on track to blow into the region around 8 a.m. tomorrow, towns in northern Rhode Island are planning for slippery roadways for Thursday’s morning commute.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of Rhode Island from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., predicting mixed precipitation and a total accumulation of 2 to 4 inches.
The forecast calls for snow, possibly mixed with sleet before 2 p.m., likely followed by freezing rain mixed with snow. A chance of freezing rain continues after 3 p.m.
Drivers should plan on slippery road conditions, and are advised to slow down and use caution.
The town of North Smithfield has already issued a parking ban, in effect from 12 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6 until further notice. The town also announced that trash and recycling pickup will begin at 5 a.m. to accommodate the winter weather.
In Burrillville, the parking ban will run from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Community Christian School will be closed tomorrow, with video classes for grades 3 through 8.
Foster-Glocester Elementary and Regional Schools have announced a virtual day for Ponaganset Middle School and High School with no school for elementary students.
