Preservation workshop

Members of the Burrillville Land Trust will hold a workshop to help landowners learn how to take advantage of state funds for preservation on Monday, Dec. 9 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Jesse Smith Memorial Library at 100 Tinkham Lane. Speakers will include Attorney Marc Gertsacov, who will discuss how property can be protected either through an acquisition or with a conservation easement, and Marc Tremblay, an independent forest consultant with Land Management Services, who will talk about how a forest management plan can help with applying for open space funds and reducing taxes with the Farm, Forest and Open Space Act.

Winter Wear Drive

Holly’s Angels is now holding a Winter Wear Drive, collecting new hats, gloves, scarfs and socks for those in need. Donations can be brought to the bin/gift box under the Christmas tree at 20 New St. in Mapleville or by contacting Amanda to arrange pickup. Monetary donations to purchase items needed will also be accepted via Venmo to @Amanda-Salisbury-3

Skate Night

An open skate night at Levy Rink at 425 East Ave. on Friday, Dec. 13 from 8 to 10 p.m. will benefit Berean Baptist Church’s Helping Hands Food Pantry. Admission will cost $7 per person or $5 with donation of a canned good. A limited number of skates will be available free for guest’s use.

A Christmas Carol

The Rhode Island Stage Ensemble will present A Christmas Carol at the Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. on several dates in December. The production, adapted by Christian O’Neill from the original novella by Charles Dickens, will be directed by K Love with music direction by Merynn Flynn and choreography by Denise Belisle. The show will take place on December 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and December 15 and 21 at 2 p.m.

Admission costs $27 or $23 for seniors, students and military and tickets are available at www.ristage.org. An additional $2 fee will apply for at-the-door sales.

It is the first time that Dickens’ classic has ever been performed at the historic theater. The timeless tale of Scrooge will spring to life with veteran Burrillville actor Steve Taschereau in the role, according to a release from RISE.

Bazaar Part II

The annual Christmas bazaar and antique sale at First Universalist Church at 134 Harrisville Main St. will continue this week on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The events will feature Christmas décor, antiques and collectibles, elegant glassware, a penny social, yard sale items and baked goods.

Toy for Tots collection event

Berard Desjarlais Post 88 at 111 Chapel St. will host its annual holiday event on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a Toys for Tots collection and flag sale. Bring a new, unwrapped toy and get a free picture with Santa. The post will also hold a Hess truck raffle and collect IGA receipts, worn flags, canned goods, and new clothes and toiletries for the Knights of Columbus drive for the Rhode Island Veterans Home.

Santa visit

Santa Claus will visit Solitude Massage Therapy & Wellness Center at 979 East Ave. on Saturday, Dec. 14 for a festive holiday event to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Santa Claus will pose for pictures with digital photos that will be sent directly to emails the same day. There will be treats with Sticks Food Truck and Not Your Average Popcorn, and a raffle for a relaxation basket, with all proceeds going to Our Lady of Good Help for their food bank.

Kids Craft Fair

Art Box Studio at 180 Tinkham Lane will hold its 4th annual Kids Holiday Craft Fair on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Support young artists and purchase art, wreaths, jewelry, crochet items & more. The event will also include a bake sale to benefit the Burrillville High School cheer program

The Burrillville Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Monday, Dec. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Jesse Smith Library at 100 Tinkham Lane. The agenda is here.
