Stories from the Grave

Burrillville Historical & Preservation Society’s Betty Mencucci will present “Stories from the Grave,” at Jesse Smith Library in the community room at 100 Tinkham Lane on Tuesday, Oct. 29 starting at 6 p.m. The presentation will explore the real gravestones scattered throughout town and the hidden stories of the people that the stones commemorate.

Red flag warning

The Pascoag Fire Department is notifying residents that the National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning, predicting elevated fire weather concerns for all of southern New England on Monday.

“Due to recent dry weather, dry ground conditions, and minimum relative humidity, outdoor fires can quickly get out of control and result in property damage, or even worse, injury,” noted PFD.

Residents are advised not to burn outdoors and to be careful when discarding ashes and smoking materials.

Line dancing

Toti’s Tavern at 8 Callahan School St. will host its monthly line dancing night on Friday, Nov. 1, with song requests and lessons provided by Get In Line. The event, held on the first Friday of every month, has a $10 admission.

Sound design

The Rhode Island Stage Ensemble will offer a free class in sound design on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. Join RISE’s tech director, Roy Laurent, for a three-hour class on the most challenging aspect of technical theater. The event is the third in a series of free tech workshops offered by RISE. Participants will discuss what sound is, some sound history, the equipment used, and a few tips for success. Future sound engineers, sound techs, studio recording people, film people, musicians, and anyone interested in sound reproduction or sound reinforcement are encouraged to attend.

Laurent specializes in sound reproduction, stage lighting design and stage special effects. He has also worked as a professional roadie for a touring band, and has performed as technical director, set foreman, stage manager, sound engineer, lighting designer and special effects wizard. He owns Clear River Technical Services Corporation where he is a freelance electronics engineer and also teaches electronics at the New England Institute of Technology.

This workshop is free, but participants are asked to register in advance at www.ristage.org.
