Northern, RI – The Northern Lights were visible across northern Rhode Island Thursday evening and residents in the region captured spectacular displays of color in the sky, with many witnessing the phenomenon for the first time.

The lights were visible from some locations in northern Rhode earlier this week, but many said the beauty of the mother nature’s show on Thursday, Oct. 10 outshined any previous occurrences in the area.

According to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, the aurora borealis was visible thanks to a G4 (severe) storm.

Those who missed the show just might another chance Friday. An aurora map from the Space Weather Prediction Center, a division of the NOAA shows the lights may be visible as far south as northern Iowa thanks to a “strong” G3-level storm.
