NORTH SMITHFIELD – Joey Sevigny, a lifelong resident of North Smithfield, has announced his candidacy for the North Smithfield Town Council, noting that he has dedicated his life to public service and improving his community.

Married to Theresa Grist, Sevigny began his career in 1987 as a volunteer firefighter in North Smithfield. He was soon hired full-time as a firefighter/EMT-cardiac and later transferred to Blackstone in 1999 as a firefighter/paramedic. He retired at the rank of lieutenant in 2019.

With 15 years as union president for Blackstone Professional Firefighters Local 4139, Sevigny has a strong leadership background. He has been a member of the Cercle Laurier Club since 2009 and has served as the shop steward for Teamsters 251 since 2021. Additionally, he owned and operated Joey Sevigny Landscaping for nearly three decades.

Since 2023, Sevigny has served two terms on the North Smithfield Budget Committee, first as vice chairman and now as chairman. He said the role has provided him with a deep understanding of the town’s financial needs and priorities.

“I am committed to the future of North Smithfield and believe my experience and dedication can help us achieve a brighter future for all residents,” Sevigny said, adding that his extensive background in public service and leadership makes him a strong candidate for the North Smithfield Town Council. He said he looks forward to serving the community he has always called home.

  1. Best of luck Joey, a great addition to local town leadership, never had an issue with contributing to the safety and well being of multiple communities as a first responder!
Some talk the talk, Joey walks the walk, never having an issue voicing his stance putting citizen choice and parental authority for the well being of their children first.

    God bless!

  2. “If your kids want to read these books, go to the public library and get them. It shouldn’t be my tax dollars paying for them,” Sevigny said.

I would like to let the Budget Committee chair know that public libraries are funded by tax dollars too.

Mr. Sevigny, if elected to the Town Council will you call for the removal of books you deem dangerous or inappropriate from the towns library?

  3. The biggest problem with this candidate is he is a union person who will approve large salary increases for his union brothers and sisters with zero improvement in service. We already have 2 union spenders on the council we do not need any more. Just note that when union salary increases this just means another 4% property tax increase. This type of thinking has lead the town to reduce trash service, not pave roads, and not maintain buildings but the last two administrators would have you think they have done a superior job.

  4. This is the same guy who showed up at school meetings a few years ago trying to get books banned He’s a bigot and I hope he comes in last place this isnt the type of person we need on our town council

    • Saying some is a “book banner” is a broad brush stroke. Name calling is childish and shows a lot about your character.

Someone who stands up informs the school committee about sexually charged books being read in class, books about promoting suicide and also teachers asking students to bring in girls undergarments for props in relation to “the book” is an advocate for what’s right and standing up for what’s not appropriate.

By your thoughts, penthouse should be allowed to be read in class?

Mr. Sevigny is a fine standing member of this community, life long resident and truly has the best interest in keeping what’s beautiful about NS in his heart.

      • no you creep I don’t want penthouse in schools and no one but YOU is asking about it. talk about character, huh?

by the way, if you look back at the school committee meeting he wanted to ban books you’ll find out the book youre so worried about was NEVER even on the shelves. he was just looking for some way to prove how much he hates gay and trans people.

the weird obsession people like you and joey have with sexuality seems an awful lot like projection….
