Glocester Town Council recognizes Reichert, Steere for years of service

GLOCESTER – The Glocester Town Council recognized two longtime public servants this week who each spent decades serving on their respective town and school boards.

William Reichert and Walter M.O. Steere, Jr. were presented citations at the council’s meeting on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Reichert, a Glocester resident since 1976, served on the Planning Board prior to winning a seat on the Town Council in 1998. The operations manager of Chepachet-based Reichert & Son Fuel Oil has served almost continuously since, with a break from 2008 to 2011. He’s also served on the West Glocester Fire District Board of Directors.

Reichert served as vice president of the board prior to the death last year of former Council President Julian Forgue in 2021, when he was appointed president. He ran as an independent in the 2022 election and came in sixth for the five-member board.

“On the Town Council, you served your town well with your strength and your sense of humor,” said Council President William Worthy,

“Given in appreciation and recognition of your dedication, commitment and service for the benefit of our community through the years,” Reichert’s citation read.

Steere was recognized, “for his work and dedication to our students and our schools for the past 20 years.”

First elected in 2002, Steere has served on the Glocester School Committee and the Foster Glocester Regional School Committee for 20 years. He did not seek reelection in 2022.

You have served the residents of Glocester with your experience, honesty and integrity,” said Worthy. “We appreciate your commitment for the 20 years and acknowledge your service to our community.”

Both men thanked councilors for the reognition.

“It’s been a great experience over the 20 years,” said Steere. “I met so many great, wonderful people.”

“The town of Glocester is very lucky that they have some great people serving,” he added. “Our schools are well run.”
