Trash delay
Trash pickup is delayed this week due to the Labor Day holiday. Pickup will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week. Questions can be directed to the Department of Public Works Refuse and Recycling at 401-568-4440 ext. 12
First day of school
Tuesday, Sept. 4 marks the first day of school for Burrillville students. Check your child’s bus schedule here, or learn more about improvements to curriculum and facilities made over the summer here.
Walking tour
An event highlighting Harrisville History and a walking tour will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 5 starting at First Universalist Church at 6 p.m. View historical exhibits in the church, tour the inside and learn about preservation efforts, followed by a walking tour led by volunteers Betty and Carlo Mencucci to the mill pond and dam, as well as to many of the historic buildings constructed by Austin T. Levy. This event is presented as part of Blackstone Heritage Corridor’s GO! program. To learn more, visit www.BlackstoneHeritageCorridor.org.
Land Trust acquires acreage
The Burrillville Land Trust has accepted a donation of 3.6 acres of land bordering Connecticut. The donation adds to the large forest by which Invenergy, LLC hopes to build a power plant.
The land trust, which started in 1999, has acquired more than 200 acres of land to protect the town’s rural character.
Fundraiser
Rep. Cale Keable, along with the other Burrillville Democratic candidates, will hold a fundraiser in support of Patients for Progress, the Zambarano patient group dedicated to promoting superior care for all individuals at our state hospitals. The event will be held on Friday, Sept. 7 at Toti’s Tavern, 8 Callahan School St., Harrisville, from 6p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be free finger food and a cash bar. The suggested donation is $10 and checks can be made payable to Patients For Progress.
