BURRILLVILLE – The vehicle in a crash last week that left the occupant in serious condition was traveling at 104-miles-per-hour according to Burrillville police, who charged the driver after his release from the hospital.

Jake Surprenant, 30, of Burrillville has been charged with reckless driving as a result of the accident on Wallum Lake Road on Tuesday, April 8.

According to police, Suprenant lost control of his vehicle – a 2020 Chevrolet pickup truck – and left the roadway onto the east shoulder, striking a telephone pole. The pole split in half and the truck rolled over, striking a storage box on the front lawn at 400 Wallum Lake Road, before rolling into a tree at the residence. The vehicle finally came to a halt wrapped around the tree.

A release on Tuesday noted that Burrillville Police have since completed their investigation of the crash with the help of Rhode Island State Police, obtaining a search warrant to retrieve information from the vehicle data recorder.

“The information along with on scene evidence determined the speed of the vehicle was 104 mph when the operator lost control and veered off the roadway,” noted Major Albert Carlow.

Suprenant was transported via Life Flight to Rhode Island Hospital and was later released. He responded to the Burrillville police station on Monday, April 14, where he was given the charge, along with numerous motor vehicle violations.

Suprenant was processed and released on a summons to appear in 6th District Court on Tuesday, May 6 for arraignment.

  1. How reckless! Thankfully he didn’t kill himself or someone else. He should lose his license he has no business being on the road.
