WOONSOCKET – A city woman is held at the state prison after an encounter with police that began as a check on her well being.
Dana M. Davis, 38, of no permanent address, is facing charges of narcotics possession and bail violation on a Burrillville police matter that’s been pending for more than two years.
Patrolman Randy Vittini said he stopped Davis to check on her condition after he saw her “staggering” along Church Street around 3 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20 and thought she might need assistance.
The officer ran a background check on her that revealed she was wanted on a Superior Court warrant for failure to appear for a hearing on several charges, most of them felonies, originating out of the Burrillville Police Department in December 2022. Those charges include accessing a computer for fraudulent purposes; obtaining credit through fraud in excess of $100 over a six-month period; conspiracy; and obtaining property through fraud or impersonation, according to the judiciary’s web site.
As Vittini prepared to take her into custody, he found a crack pipe and nearly three grams of crack in her coat pocket, the officer reported.
After an appearance before Associate Superior Court Justice David Cruise, Davis was remanded to the Adult Correctional Institutions pending a hearing on the bail violation charge in March 6, according to the judiciary’s web site.
Meanwhile, in Sixth District Court, Associate Judge Anthony Capraro set bail on the misdemeanor drug charge at $1,000 personal recognizance.
