Life support, movie night & dinner/dance: Seven things to know in Burrillville this week

Freshwater regulations

The Burrillville Conservation Commission will offer a free informational session on freshwater wetlands regulations at Jesse Smith Library on Thursday, Feb. 20 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Learn about permits required for projects and the meaning of a buffer zone with Chuck Horbert, deputy administrator with the Department of Environmental Management.

At The Loft

Solitude Massage Therapy & Wellness Center at 979 East Ave. will offer a full schedule of classes in The Loft this week, including yoga, and a free informational session on essential oils on Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. earn how these pure, natural plant extracts support health, boost immunity, enhance relaxation, and promote overall well-being.

On Sunday, Feb. 23, a sound meditation class will be held in the using the soothing sounds of crystal singing bowls to nurture body, mind, and spirit. The class costs $35 and will start at 10 a.m.

Basic life support

The Burrillville Parks & Recreation Department will offer two seminars on basic life support, starting this week with Heartsaver CPR and AED training. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 18 for the class, to be held on Saturday, Feb. 22 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Beckwith-Bruckshaw Lodge 50 Lodge Road.

The cost is $40 and participants must register by texting their name and session date to (401) 651-5777.

Operation Stand Down

Help the Burrillville High School boys’ hockey team in the effort to support Operation Stand Down, supplying food and monetary assistance to Rhode Island veterans. The team is collecting donations and food items including pasta sauce, rice, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, instant mashed potatoes, shelf milk, canned meats, canned fruit and ready to eat meals.

Items will be accepted at the team’s last home game, when they take on Bishop Hendricken at Levy Rink on Saturday, Feb. 22 starting at 7 p.m.

Movie night

Support the Burrillville High School Girls Basketball team at the Assembly Theatre at 26 East Ave. on Saturday, Feb. 22 with a movie night. A showing of Minions is set to start at 6 p.m.

Valentines Dinner Dance

The Burrillville Lions Club & Knights of Columbus Pascoag Council 383 will host their 8th annual Valentines Dinner Dance on Sunday, Feb. 23 from noon to 5 p.m. at Bella Restaurant at 1992 Victory Highway. The event, rescheduled from earlier this month due to snow, costs $40 per person, including social hour starting at noon, with dinner to be served at 1 p.m., followed by music, dancing and raffles. All proceeds from the event benefit local charities.

The Burrillville 250 Commission will hold a meeting on Monday, Feb. 17 starting at 7 p.m. at the Wallace Lees Safety Complex at 1477 Victory Highway. The agenda is here.
