BURRILLVILLE – A firefighter/EMT with the Pascoag Fire Department was indicted by a Providence County grand jury last week on a felony charge of domestic violence – sexual assault for an incident dating back to 2016.

Matthew Dupuis, 44, of Pascoag was indicted on Friday, Jan. 17 following a complaint filed with the Burrillville Police Department by his now ex wife, according to a document filed in Rhode Island Superior Court. The state database shows that the case was filed at the same time the couple filed for divorce in April of 2024. The divorce was finalized in September.

The indictment states that, on a date between January of 2015 and March of 2024, Dupuis engaged in sexual penetration by force or coercion with the victim.

Dupuis, a full time career firefighter with the Pascoag Fire Department, was named the Nicholas S. Sabella Firefighter of the Year by the district for 2023, an award he received last year as the case was underway.

Pascoag Chief Michael Dexter could not immediately be reached for comment.

An arraignment in the case has been scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 5.
