Fundraiser for local mom
Family and friends of Moriah Roy, a 35-year-old Glocester native and mother of two, are seeking the public’s help in her fight against metastasized breast cancer. Roy is reportedly currently seeking an experimental treatment in Tampa, Fl. not covered by insurance, which costs $6,000 per week for 8-10 weeks. A GoFundMe page set up August 6 to help with medical expenses has already raised $74,096 of its $85,000 goal.
Youth night
Chepachet Union Church will hold Youth Night on Friday, August 19, for kids in grades 6 through 12. The event will feature a campfire, smores, doughboys, games and music from 6 to 8:30 p.m., rain or shine, at the church at 1138 Putnam Pike. All teens are welcome to attend the fun night, and welcome bring a friend or two.
Book drive
Romani Orthodontics at 1109 Putnam Pike in Chepachet is collecting new and gently used books to benefit families in need through the non-profit Bring Joy By Reading. Books for any age group are accepted and all donors qualify to win a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card.
Donations can be dropped off at the business from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Thursday, August 31.
Music on the Lawn
Mulberry Vineyards at 95 Pound Road in Chepachet will host live entertainment by Michael Sullivan on Sunday, August 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. Visitors are invited to bring chairs and enjoy a glass or two of the vineyard’s wine in a relaxing outdoor setting.

The West Glocester Fire District will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 15 at station 1 at 2410 Putnam Pike starting at 5:30 p.m. The agenda is here.
The Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 15 at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike starting at 6:30 p.m. The agenda is here.
The special meeting of the Glocester Town Council originally scheduled for Wednesday, August 16 has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Sept. 6.
