Blasting

The town is notifying residents that blasting will take place at the quarry on Pine Hill Road on Monday, April 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The blasting is part of Material Corporations operations.

Flushing

The Water Department has also issued a notice – warning residents that water flushing will take place this week from Monday, April 10 through Friday, April 14 from 7 a.m to 3 p.m. in the areas of Slatersville, Forestdale, Great Road, Mendon Road and Industrial Park. Flushing is part of routine maintenance and enhances water quality. It may cause a temporary reduction in pressure, and some discoloration may occur.

Water officials recommend limiting water usage during flushing operations and if water is discolored, residents are advised to run the cold water until it becomes clear.

For more information, contact the Water Department at (401) 767-2200 ext. 320 or 305.

For those who receive water from Blackstone, that Water Department will also conduct flushing starting this week, on April 10 and running through early May, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. To contact Blackstone water officials call (508) 883-9331.

Pickleball

The North Smithfield Park & Recreation Department will sponsor a four week Spring Session of pickleball at North Smithfield High School on Sundays from 4-6 p.m. starting on Sunday, April 16 with instructor Marissa Pitrone.

You don’t have to be a resident to sign up for the $90 session and registration is available here.

Paving

Reconstruction of the Town Hall parking lot will also begin on Monday, April 10 according to town officials and is expected to take between 6-7 days to complete, weather permitting.

Residents are advised that the handicap ramp will be temporarily closed during construction. Town Hall will remain accessible to residents during regular business hours, with entry through the council chamber door.

“We will provide updates as construction progresses,” noted town offices. “Thank you for your patience during this construction period.”

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation also has a list of ongoing improvement projects to town roads this week. A list of restrictions can be found here.

  1. Priorities! Gotta’ make sure the town hall parking lot is perfect when roads like Pound Hill are a complete disaster.

    • Totally agree. We have had zero planning and execution from the current and former Town Administrator to the Town Council on paving the roads. But we need a $2M football field, a $20 million police station, and god knows how much we are going spend at the Halliwell property and scouters hall in capital and annual maintenance. Soon we are going to have to buy an ATV to drive on NS roads.

    • the town hall lot should of been taken care of when the renovations were done but leadership put a band aid on it instead. cutting corners in short term cost more in the end, everytime. and we keep doing it.
