NORTH SMITHFIELD – The Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Board of Directors announced this week that North Smithfield resident Paul Jones has been elected to the Board of Directors.

BHC works with community partners to preserve, promote, and celebrate the historic, natural, and recreational resources of the Blackstone River Valley and its 25 constituent communities. These communities include North Smithfield, Burrillville, Glocester, Lincoln, Pawtucket, and more. BHC was the driving force behind the establishment of the Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park, one of the country’s newest national parks, and is responsible for managing the Park’s volunteer programs.

“This is an incredible honor,” said Jones. “The BHC has done such amazing work for the river, the valley, and the communities it serves. I am beyond excited to join the mission of the BHC as we continue to make improvements on how we serve the valley.”

In a press release, Jones highlighted some of the top priorities for the board in the coming months, including advocating for the completion of the multi-use bike path which connects Worcester to Providence along the Blackstone River.

“The Bikeway is extremely popular, and its completion is one of our major focus points for the next few months”, said Jones. “We are also looking for people to volunteer at the Park or other cultural and historical sites as guides and docents. This is a great way to get involved, and for a great cause.”

  1. Congratulations on this new role, Paul. My husband and I used to live in and caretake a historic house right on the bike path in Lincoln, on the river. It was a great time in life. I absolutely love the Blackstone Valley Heritage Corridor. It’s a true jewel in this region. Thank you for your service on this board. Wishing you good luck!

  2. What happened to being to busy with work to be part of the NSDTC??? LOL

Never seen someone so much in love with himself.

    …this is newsworthy???

    • Hi JP — I’m still very much a member of the NSDTC. Being part of BHC is a great opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

I encourage you to get out from behind your keyboard and come volunteer! All are welcome, and the sunshine might do you some good!

      – Paul Jones
