BURRILLVILLE – Police have identified the woman whose body was discovered Sunday morning half submerged in water at a fishing area in town.

Jane Finkelstein, 67, of Harrisville is believed to have fallen through the ice at Little Round Top Pond at some point on Saturday, Feb. 4, according to police.

Officers responded to a 911 call from an individual who discovered Finkelstein Sunday morning in the pond, a fishing and hiking site off of Brook Road in the Harrisville section of Burrillville.

“The Burrillville Police Department and the Rhode Island State Medical Examiner’s Office found no evidence of foul play with the circumstances of Ms. Finkelstein’s death,” Col. Stephen Lynch said in a release. “Burrillville Police have learned that Ms. Finkelstein is an avid outdoor enthusiast and was known to hike in this area frequently.”

The victim’s body was reportedly recovered approximately 20 feet from the shore, partially submerged in the water, and on broken ice.

The release noted that Finkelstein was a child psychologist and maintained an office and practice in the Holliston, Mass. area.
