Police hiring, Big Brothers Big Sisters collection: Five things to know in Glocester this week

Register

The town is notifying residents that to be eligible to vote at the Foster/Glocester Regional School Financial Meeting to be held on Tuesday, March 21 at 7 p.m. at Ponaganset High School, you must be a registered Glocester voter.

Residents can register in person at the Glocester Town Hall, Town Clerk’s Office, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The final day to register in person is Friday, Feb. 17 by 4 p.m.

Online registration and corrections can be made at https://vote.sos.ri.gov/ through Sunday, Feb. 19.

Mail in voter registration forms can be obtained at https://vote.sos.ri.gov/ and mailed to Glocester Town Hall. Town Clerk’s Office, 1145 Putnam Pike, PO Box B, Chepachet, RI 02814 and must be received by deadline to be valid.

Hiring

The Glocester Police Department is now seeking a qualified candidate to serve as probationary police officer. Applicants must be available to attend the municipal police academy beginning in July 2023.

Applications may be obtained from https://www.policeapp.com/GlocesterRI and must be completed no later than 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 3.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters collection

The Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization has announced that they will be in Glocester on Wednesdays throughout the month of February providing free curbside pickups of clothing, shoes, and small cloth items like blankets, towels and curtains. Donations help to keep textiles out of transfer stations and to provide youth across the community with positive mentoring relationships.

Those with items to donate who would like to schedule curbside pickup should visit their website at www.bigsri.org/donaterior call (401) 921-2434 using option 2.

Vote for Abby

Glocester native and resident Abby Gustufson has been chosen to compete to be on the cover of Inked Magazine and is looking for support in her bid to be first in her group.

“I have been on a journey to build myself back up as a woman,” notes Gustufson in her profile for the competition. “My tattoos bring me joy and confidence and I would love to share that.”

Town meetings

The West Glocester Fire District executive board will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7 starting at 5:30 p.m. at 2410 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Economic Development Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 11:45 Putnam Pike.

The Foster-Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7 starting at 7 p.m. in the library of Ponaganset High School at 137 Anan Wade Road. The agenda is here.
